Considering Steam has about 10 times more users, most of your Steam friends probably don't have an Epic account and even fewer still would have linked it. So, for some people on EGS, it effectively doesn't have crossplay. WebInternet (Unified Play) is only shown on steam, where as in Epic it's just internet. So you are doing it correctly. Players on steam go to "Internet (Unified Play)" and on Epic just go "Internet". From what i know, the game server is overloaded that a lot of people are having trouble creating lobby games or even joining the game using code.
